About the ZEDO Program
The Zero Dropout Initiative Programme (ZEDO) strives to eliminate school dropouts by supporting school and community-led campaigns that address the root causes of student attrition
The ZEDO program emerged from a two-year research study conducted across eight schools and involving more than 50 local community education leaders, including head teachers, LC1s, and religious leaders. The research was carried out in Kajjansi Town Council, Katabi Town Council, Entebbe Municipality, and Sheema District, helping us understand the complexities surrounding school dropouts and enabling us to develop effective tools and strategies for intervention.
Our intervention framework, built around the 4C Strategy—creating awareness, capacity building for key stakeholders, community engagement, and child support—was recognized by the Ministry of Education and Sports as a relevant, sustainable, effective, and efficient multidimensional approach to addressing school dropout challenges.
In 2019, the Zero Dropout Initiative Program was officially launched by the Ministry of Education and Sports to equip head teachers, local council leaders, religious leaders, and other stakeholders across the country with the best interventions to combat school dropouts.
